I started my Etsy shop back in the fall of 2018, selling customized weather heatmap cross-stitch patterns. I had originally created the pattern to stitch for my own pregnancy and enjoyed the process so much that I set out to streamline the process of customization.
When I first started off, it was extremely manual, logging temperatures into a Google Sheet, building all the formulas by hand and converting them into a pattern. It was a process I enjoyed, but it wasn't scalable. My first patterns were a combination of downloading data from the NOAA and then using Excel. I graduated to using R when I began my Master's program at Boston University in 2019. In 2021, I began learning Python and have even further streamlined the process. There are still some kinks to work out, but it's come a long way. For more details on the patterns I've created, please see the Related Content block at top right.
This has always been a passion project of mine, one that doesn't pull a lot of focus away from my family, full-time job, and studies. I enjoy both creating the patterns and stitching them up, but the caveat on the below dashboard (as different from most dashboards with data-driven insights) is that I'm not in a place to drive large amounts of sales at the moment.
